About this space

Tucked into the Oak Island treetops, The Salty Fin sits on a quiet street just half a mile from the beach. Families, groups of 10, and dog owners keep coming back because the house is genuinely well-stocked and the location genuinely delivers. Restaurants and shops are walkable. Middleton Park is around the corner.

Inside, a bright sectional and large Smart TV anchor the living room. The modern farmhouse kitchen is fully stocked for real cooking: Keurig, drip coffee maker, blender, ice cream maker, deep farmhouse sink, and plenty of counter space for the catch of the day.

Outside is where The Salty Fin earns its name. The upper front deck has Polywood rockers shaded by oaks. The back screened porch seats eight with a ceiling fan and gas grill. The wooded backyard has a firepit with ample seating, and a private outdoor shower with hot and cold water rounds it all out.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Salty Fin dog-friendly?

Yes. The Salty Fin accepts dogs. One dog is included in the rental rate at no extra charge. Additional dogs are welcome with prior owner approval and applicable fees. Oak Island beaches allow dogs outside of peak summer hours (before 9 AM and after 5 PM in season).

How far is the house from the beach?

Half a mile, roughly a 10-minute walk or 2-minute drive. We provide beach carts so hauling chairs, coolers, and gear is no big deal. The nearest public beach access has free parking.

How many guests can The Salty Fin sleep?

Up to 10 guests across 4 bedrooms: a master suite (king, private bath), a second bedroom (king), a third bedroom (queen), and a fourth bedroom (2 twins). There is also a sleeper sofa in the ground-floor lounge.

What is check-in like?

Keyless self check-in at 4:00 PM. You receive an entry code before your arrival date and can head straight to the house — no waiting, no key pickup. Weekly summer rentals check in on Saturday or Sunday depending on the property calendar. Nightly rentals are available in the off-season with a 2-night minimum.

Is there a military discount?

The Salty Fin offers a military discount for active-duty and veteran guests, subject to availability. Contact Oak Island Accommodations at 888-297-8066 or info@thesaltyfinoki.com when booking to request the discount.

What is Oak Island like as a vacation destination?

Oak Island is a barrier island on the North Carolina coast known for uncrowded beaches, a calm Intracoastal Waterway, and a small-town feel. Middleton Park hosts concerts and has a splash pad for kids. The Southport ferry is 10 minutes away. Unlike busier NC beach towns, Oak Island stays relatively uncrowded even in peak summer.
